As I began writing this, my heart was flooded with such emotions as I recall this precious time spent with these freshly postpartum families. Whether their first or last baby, the hours I spend with them will be treasured in my heart. Minutes, Hours, Days, Weeks, Months, and sometimes a year, we get to spend such a special and tender time together. If I have ever been your postpartum doula, this if for you.
As our time together comes to an end, I want you to know a few things:
Thank you for allowing me to come into your home, however untidy it might be. Thank you for trusting me to take care of you and your newly expanded family through this sleep-depriving yet joyful chapter of your lives.
Thank you for confiding in me your struggles and triumphs through motherhood. Thank you for helping me become a better doula. Because of you, I am able to help more mamas and babies find joy and peace through birth and postpartum.
I cannot express to you the honor that I feel when you allow me to become a small part of your family for a short while. Thanks for letting me sweep your floors, fold your laundry, wash your dishes, and run your errands. Seriously. By helping you, fill your cup, you in return fill mine.
If you ever need anything, you know where to find me. Once your doula, always your doula. ; )
Lots of love,
Hannah Troyer, CD(DONA) and a few of her thoughts on pregnancy, birth, and postpartum!
